From the minute we stepped off the plane at Rafael Nunez airport we were deep in vacation mode. The heat and humidity instantly announce themselves as travel companions and demand a slower pace.
A quick 10 minute cab ride followed by a brief haggle for a fare price ($7 USD) and we were transported inside the colonial city walls to Hotel Anandá.
Greeted by a friendly staff and freshly squeezed pineapple juice, our experience at Hotel Anandá was absolutely top notch.
Every detail is seen to. Polished, refined and welcoming with an almost spa like quality, they just get it right.
In general my husband and I are budget travelers and this stay was a bit of a splurge for us. For our one year anniversary though, we decided to spend a little more than our typical $100 a night. It was worth every penny with rooms that were cool and outrageously comfortable beds.
We started each day at the hotel with a hearty breakfast including coffee and fresh juice, a fruit plate and bread basket. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, we also had a choice between the tourist friendly pancake and egg dishes to the more traditional beef consommé and arepas options.
For us Nomads, there was even a well appointed room with wifi and badly needed air conditioning!
I wasn’t leaving without taking a dip in both pools, which made me never want to leave.
A luxurious rooftop pool lends panoramic views of historic Cartagena.
A secret rooftop? Well not exactly but we did manage to snag it all to ourselves at Sunset!
Thank you Hotel Anandà for creating such a magical retreat in the heart of Cartagena Colombia. We loved it so much, it just might make our list of places these globe trotting nomads visit twice!
