Smeg Refrigerator Lust, Should I Smeg?

To Smeg or not to Smeg? Smeg refrigerator that is. That is the question on deck this week. I first fell in love with SMEG while living in New York City. After a long day at the Food Network, I’d walk from our offices in the Chelsea market to my tiny little Gramercy Park apartment. Whenever I was too tired to cook, I’d stop by Eataly in the Flatiron building for a bite to eat.

Smeg Refrigerator

That’s when I first saw her. Those sleek Smeg curves stopped me in my tracks. I stood paralyzed half way between this beautiful fridge and the one free stool that would be snapped up any second. Anyone who has jockeyed for a stool at an Eataly counter in New York City knows what a moment that must have been!

I’ve craved a beautiful Smeg fridge ever since. It doesn’t help that they come in pink! A color I could never force Paolo to put in our home. I’ll just have to live viciously through Shawna Who for that!

Paolo is aware of my obsession every since our last New York City layover when I sidelined him at Eataly for this photo.

Dolce & Gabbana SMEG Refrigerator

Even though we’re renovating our home in Italy, I don’t think either one of us is ready to have the Italian flag in our kitchen. This Smeg line co-designed by Dolce & Gabbana however is so, so tempting. Take the Majolica Sicily is My Love Fridge for example.

Be still my beating heart! Like literally. This fridge runs thousands and lots more thousands of dollars. So it’s a no-go from the get-go. But a beautiful white one maybe?

Or what about the pastel green? I’m sort of in love with it too.

Is it Worth Getting a Smeg fridge?

They are expensive for a refrigerator running around 1,600€ depending on the model, but they are just so stylish! If it’s my one big splurge in the house, would it be the right way to go? Or is that pastel green the new avocado green? If you or anyone you know has experience with a SMEG fridge, I’d love to hear it. Good, bad, love it, regret it? I’m still on the fence and finding conflicting reviews. While one review trashes Smeg refrigerators as overpriced, another lauds it. What I haven’t found, is anyone bashing the gorgeous retro design, or delicious colors. What do you think? Feel free to add your experience or two cents on design in the comments below!

Thanks. We are going to get the large one in cream. Love your colour as well.

Did you get a Smeg and if so what do you think?

  3. Oh wow love this fridge…. I hear lots go onto eBay, for picking up a bargain… you could then pay a company to rewrap it for you (same as what they wrap buses in)?

  4. Never had a Smeg appliance, so can’t really comment. I’m a Miele fan.

    1. I’ve heard only positive about Miele. My Sis used to design American Kitchen ABV baths and would use Miele as her high end appliances for American customers! What do you have (if you don’t mind my asking?)

      1. I have Miele washing machine and dryer but in the kitchen I (unfortunately) have Gaggenau – never again. The hob, oven and dishwasher have been fine though not as good as my previous Miele models. The Gaggenau fridge-freezer has been a nightmare. As appliances need replacing, I’ll be buying Miele replacements.

        1. Good to know about Gaggenau! It’s not a brand I know but I JUST started looking at what options are here in Italy. Right now Miele is at the top of my list!
