Italian Home Reno | Kitchen Backsplash
Happy Friday my friends! Today I’m jumping right in because I’ve got an update about my favorite part of our home renovation, the kitchen! I know that’s a lot of exclamation points, but I can’t help myself. I’m that excited about our home renovation in Bardonecchia, Italy.
Last week I promise a glimpse of what that splash of Aegean Blue will look like in our kitchen and here it is! Or rather three possible versions of bright kitchen happiness.

When I asked for a tile backsplash in the kitchen, our architect expressed a little… concern that the kitchen could feel a bit busy. She suggested we reconsider the countertop I had originally picked out.
Here’s a shot from my iPhone (please forgive the image quality) with the “Extra White” countertop sample next to our Aegean Blue cabinet color, wall color, and floor sample.
So now, we’re considering three options. Option one shown below incorporates large format tiles and a gray countertop.
In this option, there are six large tiles in total for the backsplash. Each tile has four unique patterns to mimic the look of smaller tiles.
Option two in the photo below brings back the white faux marble countertop but takes out the tile backsplash in favor of resin paint on the wall. Arguably the cleanest look of the three.
Option three brings in a small format tile with gray countertops.
What do you think? Big tiles, no tiles, small tiles? Gray or white countertops? Too busy? Aegean Blue too bold? I’ve got a few ideas myself but I’m curious to see what you think. Feel free to share thoughts in the comments at the bottom of the post.

Love the bright color. I had painted backsplashes for years. Redid them with mini tiles about five years ago. I much prefer the tile but it’s yet another thing to have to pick out and it’s not easy to change if you decide you want to change colors.
My hope was if I wanted to change colors down the road the more neutral tile gray and white would work. Great things to keep on mind though about tile in general. Paint is far easier to change!

Actually I might have liked the lighter countertop with the smaller tiles, but that was not a choice. No backsplash would create a nightmare trying to keep it clean.
Welllll…. it actually is (hehehe) I don’t want to give it away but we had a few requests along these lines ;). I’m with you on the cleanup. I make SUCH a mess, I didn’t feel comfortable with the idea of a resin paint backsplash. I need easy clean materials. Hope you’ll join me next week to hear more about what we decided!
